How does the Marathon predictor work?
PIRX projects your Marathon finish time from a recent race result using its proprietary machine-learning prediction engine. Rather than applying one static formula, the engine fits to your individual endurance profile, cross-checks several internal methods against each other, and widens its supported range when they disagree — so you get an honest range rather than a false-precision number. A 20:00 5K projects toward a sub-3:10 marathon — but only with the long runs and fueling to back it; without that base, the real finish can be 20–40 minutes slower.
How does PIRX’s prediction engine stay accurate?
No single approach wins for every runner, which is why PIRX’s engine blends several methods and weighs them against your input. Here is what each method contributes and where it is strongest:
| Method | What it does | Best for | Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Adaptive distance scaling | Learns how your speed fades as distance grows, fitted to you | Projecting across any pair of distances | A single very short input widens the supported range |
| Fitness-equivalent modeling | Converts your race into one fitness score, then projects equivalents | Cross-checking 5K–half marathon projections | Assumes a roughly balanced speed/endurance profile |
| Elite-anchored calibration | Calibrates against world-class performance curves | Keeping extreme or very fast inputs realistic | Less granular at easy recreational paces |
How should I train to hit this Marathon time?
The marathon is an endurance and fueling event: long runs out to 30–35 km, marathon-pace segments, and a deliberate carbohydrate strategy matter more than raw speed over 42.195 km.
Run the marathon with an even or slightly negative split. Going out even 5 seconds per kilometer too fast in the first 10 km is the most common cause of the late-race slowdown runners call hitting the wall.
Why it beats a basic calculator
Most race calculators apply one formula and stop. PIRX also attributes your projection to performance drivers — your aerobic base, pace economy, and speed reserve — so you understand why the number is what it is. Connect a wearable in the PIRX app to unlock recovery quality, structural-shift risk, and a personalized Event Readiness score that updates from your real training.
