These checks are a guide, not a promise. Some injuries let you run with a little leftover stiffness, as long as the running itself stays pain-free. But the pattern holds. What is the 24-hour pain rule?
The 24-hour pain rule is the clearest signal of whether a run was too much. The rule is simple. A run should not leave you in more pain the next day.
